NCR and FAST Announce Agreement

Smart Commercial Kitchen Technology by FAST Interfaces with Open Store Automation Solutions.

STRATFORD, Conn., August 29, 2000 -- NCR Corporation and Food Automation - Service Techniques, Inc. (FAST) announced today that they have signed a global sales referral agreement naming FAST as an NCR Solution Provider.

FAST is a leading manufacturer of process control systems, including the FAST Smart Commercial Kitchen (SCK) restaurant management system and appliance network software. SCK can be interfaced with open point-of-sale (POS) software and back office software to provide complete solutions for the restaurant industry. For example, FAST recently announced agreements to integrate its systems with applications offered by Tridex/Progressive Software and Compris Technologies, two world leaders in hospitality POS and back office software.

NCR offers a complete portfolio of store automation solutions, including POS workstations, displays, printers and other systems - as well as professional and customer services. NCR partners with world class software providers to deliver solutions to the food service industry.

"Integration of FAST's SCK enterprise system with open POS and back office application software gives restaurant operators the freedom for multi-platform data collection never before possible," said Ben Koether, chairman of FAST. "This agreement with NCR extends our ability to provide our mutual customers with innovative tools that facilitate tighter control of their operations and help them succeed in an increasingly competitive marketplace."

Designed to eliminate certain manual processes in the kitchen, SCK links appliances and other devices together and collects, shares and interprets data, allowing managers to automate production and preparation rates and monitor critical times and temperatures.

The latest version of the SCK network (Version 2.0) includes a predictive cooking application that utilizes a Kitchen Status Monitor (KSM) to enhance labor efficiency by prompting the operator throughout the production process and acting as a "virtual" kitchen manager.
