FAST’s Smart Commercial Kitchen® Selected as the Exclusive Cooking Appliance Communication Solution for KFC Company Restaurants

Stratford, CT, August 26, 2002 -- Food Automation – Service Techniques, Inc. (FAST), a leading provider of appliance controls and online kitchen networking products for the food service industry, announced today that they have signed an agreement with Yum! Brands, Inc. designating FAST’s Smart Commercial Kitchen (SCK®) platform as the exclusive solution for network-ready cooking appliances for all KFC company restaurants.

The SCK solution will conform to the recently adopted North American Food Equipment Manufacturer’s Association (NAFEM) communications control standards, which enable a standard communication between various pieces of equipment. SCK enables foodservice operators to remotely monitor equipment and report on operations from multiple store locations across the globe.

FAST is the vendor of choice that will work with KFC to develop and deploy customized applications utilizing FAST’s SCK technology. Initial applications are designed to connect network-ready appliances in KFC stores and integrate them with the restaurants’ existing systems and information solutions. The integration will enable KFC to remotely monitor and manage equipment, and provide valuable management reports to in-store team members and regional and corporate management. The solution will also be made available for use by franchisee-owned locations as well as other potential Yum! brands depending on application needs.
